Term 4

Welcome back! We hope you have managed to have a really good rest over half term. We have another exciting topic for us to learn all about.

Term 4 Superheroes

Heroes.jpg

Calling all superheroes! This term our topic is the idea of superheroes and part of our topic will be recognising how we are all superheroes in our own way. We will be learning about fictional superheroes and basing our written work on extraordinary beings who do things like shooting lasers from their eyes or battling huge monsters (What amazing heroes they are!) In addition to this we will be thinking about heroes of the past such as Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela and Emmeline Pankhurst and how they changed the world as well as also recognising everyday heroes of today. We are also in the process of organising special learning opportunities involving members of the local community who are everyday heroes. How lucky we are!

Homework Tasks and Expectations:

Reading

Please continue to read with your children as much as possible. We recommend short daily reading opportunities and regularly rereading familiar books. We do expect children to re-read the same book three times per week to help to build fluency and develop sight reading skills. Please remember to ask your child simple questions as you go as this will help their comprehension. These could be about what has just happened, how a character is feeling, why they choose to do something or what might happen next. It is also important to discuss new vocabulary with children.

Phonics

Children need to regularly recap the learnt phonemes from their phonic sessions in school (these will be shared on a regular basis). This helps children overlearn the phonemes and supports them in recognising the phoneme as graphemes which not only supports fluency in reading but improves writing too.

Year 2 Homework

Y2s will continue have homework on a weekly basis. This alternates between English and maths tasks. We expect the homework to be returned on Fridays so it can be marked and new homework prepared by staff for the next week.
