Art and Design
Intent Statement:
At Paulton Infant School, we believe that a broad and balanced Art education is the entitlement of all children, regardless of their needs.
At Paulton Infant School we aim for our Art teaching and learning to engage, inspire and challenge pupils. We give them both the knowledge and skills to experiment and create their own works of art, craft and design based on their own experiences. Effective teaching and learning develops children’s understanding of the world around them, provides opportunities to experience a sense of awe and wonder and an appreciation of beauty in all its forms. They can make their own individual mark in response to the world around them in their own personal way.
Through Art and D.T. children can ‘travel’ to different countries and experience different cultures, they can go back in time and compare past and present to help them to understand themselves and find their place in the world. We ensure children learn about a range of artists and craftspeople to provide them with a broad and balanced curriculum. It is central to our practice that all our children feel success, supporting their developing self-confidence, independence and creativity.
Following the National Curriculum, in Art and Design our children are taught:
-
to use a range of materials creatively to design and make products
-
to use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination
-
to develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space
-
about the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work
